We are pleased to announce the Details for the Altona Gators Junior Try-outs for the 2023/2024 VJBL Season. The U12 Girls Tryout Dates & Times have been Updated.
Altona Gator Junior Try-out Details and Registration:
The Age Groups for 2023/2024 Gator Teams are as follows:
Age Group Year of Birth
Under 12’s 2013 – 2015
Under 14’s 2011 – 2012
Under 16’s 2009 – 2010
Under 18’s 2007 – 2008
The Dates and Session times for Altona Gators Try-outs can be found attached.
Under 20 Gator Team Try-outs will occur with Gators BIG V Senior & Youth League Try-outs to be announced at a later date.

You Must Register for Altona Gator Junior Try-outs by 4th October 2023.
If you Do Not Register then you will Not be Permitted to attend the Try-out.
Please Check in at least 15-20 minutes prior to your Try-out Session.
Players Must bring a light/dark Reversible Singlet (or T-Shirts), Drink Bottle and Basketball
Please ensure you Register for the Correct Age Group based on Year of Birth as listed Above.
To be Eligible for Final Team Selection, you Must Attend all Sessions unless you notify Marie Costello (Program Coordinator) by Email
marie.costello@gators.net.au of your absence.
If you do not attend all Sessions or Notify the Gators Club then you will Not be Eligible to be Selected.
Permission to Train:
If you have Played Basketball at another Representative Club in a previous Season, you are Required to obtain a Permission to Train from your previous Club/Association Prior to Attending your First Gator Try-out. You can request a permission to train at the following link:

If you require a Permission to Train and Do Not Obtain one prior to Try-outs then you will Not be able to attend the Try-out.
Parent Involvement:
In the Best Interest of Players and Coaches, Parents are excluded from Try-outs. An exception may be made for a Player with underlying Health Concerns that needs to be constantly monitored.
Parents of Players in Under 12s Gator Team Try-outs can attend if they wish.
Contact details of each Parent are collected during the Registration process and in the event an injury or illness occurs, Parents would be immediately contacted.
Attendance at Gator Try-outs and Injury:
All pre-existing or long-term Injuries must be communicated at the time of Registration. The Injured Player will be contacted by the Head Coach of each age group. The Injured Player should still Attend the Try-outs. A Player should not feel compelled to participate in Try-outs if they are injured. If a player is unable to Try-out in any capacity due to a long-term injury, their selection will be based on previous performance with vast consultation with prior year Coaches. If a player is unable to attend a Try-out due to illness or injury or unforeseen commitment, permission must be sought and granted prior to the commencement of the Try-out Session.
Team Selection:
Selection of Altona Gators VJBL Teams is a Process which is overseen by the Altona gators Director of Coaching across All Age Groups. All Coaches and Assistant Coaches will be involved in the Team Selection Process under the guidance of the Head of Age Group Coaches.
During the Gator Try-out Process the Coaches will be assessing key attributes (but not limited to); Athleticism, Footwork, Skills, Fitness, Poise, Work rate, Coachability, Attitude, Potential, Attitude and Respect towards others.
Playing Representative Basketball is a big commitment. Prior to Registering for Gator Try-outs, we encourage you to read our Player Information Booklet attached to ensure you understand the Dedication & Commitment required.
Team Selection Notification:
We will aim to Announce Teams on 16th October 2023 – however we reserve the right to hold further Try-out Sessions where required.
Players and Parents are required to adhere to the Post Try-out Acceptance Process which will be explained with the Team Selection Announcements. If a player Does Not Accept their spot within the allocate timeframes then they will Forfeit their right to Team Selection.
Parents will be required to attend Compulsory Parent Meeting after Team Selections.
We appreciate that try-outs can be a stressful time for players and their families. Players and parents are not to approach coaches throughout the try-out process, any questions should be directed to Director of Coaching, Randy Shanklin by email. (randy.shanklin@gators.net.au).
We respectfully request that if your child is disappointed with the outcome of try-outs, you help your children in a positive manner and avoid providing negative comments towards other players.
